This woodpecker has red markings on its head.
Drillers - This bird species utilize their pointed beak to drill and find insects hidden in the barks of a tree. Their long tongue help them to grab the hidden prey. They can peck (strike with its beak) up to approximately 20 times a second.
Vertical Walkers - They have zygodactyl feet. Each foot has four toes, two toes facing backward and other two facing forward. This unique structure of the feet, and their stiffened tail feathers help them to have a good grip and walk vertically up a tree trunk.
Headstrong - The air pockets in their skull prevents any damage to their brain from rapid head moment for drilling/hammering.
